You Are Not Your Job

You are not what you do.

You are how you choose to B.E.

For many of us, our occupations — consultant, coach, auditor, manager — formulate our relationship with ourselves.

Your job becomes how you relate to the world and how you introduce yourself to new people and communities.

“Hi, I’m Bob and I’m a Managing Partner at [xxx]”

Rarely do people introduce themselves as who they actually are.

‘Hi, I’m Bob and I’m a Compassionate, Patient, and sometimes Over-Zealous pottery enthusiast.

Why is it important to differentiate between what you do and who you are?

Because if you lose your job…then you’ll be catapulted into an existential crisis, often partnered up with anxiety and stress.

This particular relationship causes confusing thoughts with uncertain actions, especially if you are in a career shift.

Of all of this, the greatest danger is losing authenticity or worse yet, never having developed it.

To develop emotional resiliency, it’s critical to acknowledge WHO you are, which is NOT what you DO. If you’re a coach, it is what’s underneath the label of ‘coach’ that is you — kind, intuitive, inspiring.
